Anabolic Effects of Intraoperative Feeding in Reconstruction Surgery

Perioperative fasting remains a common clinical practice in surgical patients to prevent the development of postoperative anesthesia- and surgical-related complications. Clinical observational studies indicated that the combination catabolic effects resulted from prolonged perioperative fasting and profound surgical stress are likely to induce extensive protein catabolism, muscle breakdown and impaired glycemic …

Effects of NMES in Critically Ill Patients

Muscle wasting occurred early and rapidly in critically ill patients. Early therapeutic strategies to either maintain muscle structure and function should be encouraged. Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) is an attractive intervention to maintain muscle mass and strength in critically ill patients during the first week of ICU stay. This study …

Safety of Minimally Invasive Surgery Using Endoscopic Stapler in Early Stage Cervical Cancer Patients (SOLUTION)

The SOLUTION trial aims to show the efficacy and safety of performing radical hysterectomy by minimally invasive surgery using an endoscopic stapler in patients with cervical cancer stage IB1 (FIGO staging 2009) and thus to prove that minimally invasive surgery is non-inferior to open surgery.

Virtual Reality Mobility Assessment of Functional Vision in Retinal Disease

Background The retina is a thin layer of tissue at the back of the eye. Retinal disease usually reduces a person s mobility because it affects how he or she moves through familiar and unfamiliar environments. Researchers want to see if a virtual reality (VR) tool can provide an easier …

Association Between Lumbar Muscle Atrophy Sagittal Pelvic Alignment and Stenosis Grade in Patients With Degenerative Lumbar Spinal Stenosis

This study is to evaluate the correlation between muscle atrophy (MA), sagittal alignment, and stenosis degree in patients with lumbar spinal Stenosis (LSS). From existing radiological images, specific radiographic parameters will be extracted.

Study of the Discriminating Power of a Blood Biomarker for Omega-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid Content of the Retina for Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

Age-related macular degeneration has two clinical forms: Atrophic or dry form: progressive disappearance of photoreceptors, alteration of the pigmentary epithelium leading to a thinning of the macula.

Complex Decongestive Therapy on Distal Radius Fracture

Trauma results in inflammatory reactions accompanied by high protein edema. Trauma can also reduce the carrying capacity of the lymphatic system below normal lymphatic load, leading to exposure of lymphedema. Cellular wastes accumulated in interstitial fields and prolonged exudation period create a physiological problem. It causes the recovery time of …

Can Gait Analysis and Ultrasound Detect a Change in Calf Musculature in Children With Cerebral Palsy?

ORLAU is a clinical department of the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital. We treat patients with a wide range of movement disorders affecting their walking or arm function. One of the most common gait issues we see is toe-walking, this is most prevalent in those patients with cerebral …

Neurodegenerative Diseases Registry

Due to the overlapping presentation and similar brain pathology, especially in the early stage of the diseases, it is difficult to differentiate idiopathic Parkinson's disease (iPD) from atypical parkinsonian syndromes, such as multiple system atrophy (MSA) and progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). Similarly, distinguishing AD from other dementia syndromes including frontotemporal …

TRACK-MSA: A Longitudinal Study to Define Outcome Measures in Multiple System Atrophy

TRACK-MSA is an observational, non-interventional, longitudinal natural history study to define changes in clinical, neurological, blood, CSF, and neuroimaging biomarkers in patients with multiple system atrophy (MSA) comparing baseline to 6-month and 1-year assessments. The study will enroll 50 patients with MSA-P or MSA-C at 2 or more participating sites.
